MATTIE: Hello, I am Mattie Branson-Meyer and I am here with:
SAMINA: Samina Yousaf
MATTIE: At the Park Slope Old Timers reunion at 4th street and 5th Avenue on Saturday, August 8, 2026. Can you spell your name for me, please?
SAMINA: S-A-M-I-N-A Y-O-U-S-A-F.
MATTIE: Awesome, thank you. What is your relationship to Park Slope or to Brooklyn?
SAMINA: I have been living in the Brooklyn since 12 years, so I'm a part of this Brooklyn Heights (?) and my children are born in Brooklyn, so I just love this place.
MATTIE: Do you have a particularly powerful memory, powerful or important memory of Park Slope or Brooklyn that you'd like to share?
SAMINA: Yeah, I love Park Slope because the people over here are very nice, they are very cooperative and they are too good. One time I visited over here and one lady, she thought that I shifted over here and I was pregnant with my baby, so she bring me a full box of baby diapers, baby bottles, all the things. And I said, what is this? Then she told me that I thought you were our neighbor and I just want to give it to you. And I was so surprised and happy, overjoyed and overwhelmed, I don't have words to explain to that. I was so happy for that. And she was a black lady and I love her. I don't know her name, but she was like an angel for me.
MATTIE: Thank you.Why did you decide to come to the Park Slope Old Timers reunion today?
SAMINA: I heard that there is some event over here today, so I just come over the event, I was not aware of that that there is some reunion, so I'm very happy to come over here.
MATTIE: Thank you.What are some things you think more people should know about Park Slope or Brooklyn based on your own experiences?
SAMINA: I would say the Park Slope is very good neighborhood. I would love to live over here, but the houses are very expensive, I cannot afford. But the people are very nice and they are very cooperative.
MATTIE: What are your hopes for the future of the neighborhood and Brooklyn?
SAMINA: I hope that the future of the neighborhood and Brooklyn that it should be more safe and people can come out easily without any fear and they can have a peaceful time.
