Rodney Eury Interview Transcript:
KRYSTAL: Hello, I am Krystal Lee. I am here with:
RODNEY: Rodney Eury.
KRYSTAL: At the Park Slope Old timers Day at 4th Street and 5th Avenue on Saturday, August 8, 2026. Can you please spell your name?
RODNEY: R-O-D-N-E-Y. Last name is spelled E-U-R-Y, which is Yuri.
KRYSTAL: Thank you so much. What is your relationship with Park Slope?
RODNEY: I actually grew up here all my life. I grew right up– grew right up the block on Fourth Street at 336 Fourth Street. This is my playground right here, this park.
[PASSERBY]: What did you sign up for?
RODNEY: This park is actually my playground. From there I moved to 2nd Street between 5th and 6th Avenue and we lived there for quite a time. I went to IS 88, PS321, and John Jay High School.
KRYSTAL: Oh, wow. Okay. Do you have a particular powerful or important memory of Park Slope you'd like to share?
RODNEY: Well, a great neighborhood to grow up in. A lot of mixed nationalities were here, but everybody was a lot of love here. Lot of love here. Everybody looked up after each other's kids and stuff like that. There’s a lot of unity here.
KRYSTAL: Why did you decide to come to the Park Slope Old Timers Day?
RODNEY: To see old friends that I haven't seen in many years. People that I grew up with, people that watch me grow up. That's basically it.
KRYSTAL: Very good. What are some things you think more people should know about Park Slope based on your experience?
RODNEY: Well, I wouldn't change it for anything. My childhood, from where I was born up here. It's a great place to grow up in, a lot of great people here, and it's a good community. A good community. There’s a lot of love here. A lot of love here.
KRYSTAL: Did you say that you still live in Park Slope or have you moved away?
RODNEY: No. No, I moved away.
KRYSTAL: Okay, okay. What are your hopes for the future of this neighborhood?
RODNEY: Well, it looks like it's doing as great as it can be. And it's getting any better. It's getting– it's only getting better. I mean, it's–it's a great neighborhood. It's only going to get better. And there's a great group of people that, that grew up here and lived here that makes it that way.
